Isn't

political life - that Mr Starmer (and No 10) wanted Mr Mandelson in place asap
for political reasons, and that Mr Robbins, new in the post, flinched from
delivering the bad news about the security situation, having technical authority not to disclose any news that prejudices or runs counter to the
will and decision of the executive branch?
No wonder sophistry is having a field day. No power on earth or in heaven could cut this legal and moral Gordian Knot.
